A 2025 reanalysis of the original Wow! signal found it was even stronger
than astronomers had thought. One new explanation is extraordinary: a flare
from a magnetar may have struck a cold cloud of hydrogen in deep space,
causing it to blaze briefly at the hydrogen radio frequency — an
astronomical event that may never have been recorded before.
